Today at the University of St. Francis (USF) students may walk around and see the latest edition of the Encounter on the racks once again. This however did not come without many bumps in the road, both seen and unseen by students.

The first, and potentially biggest, setback that will be felt for the foreseeable future is the budget cuts that the Encounter faced. Along with every other club, the Encounter’s budget was cut by 25% due to the current financial situation of the university. In light of this, many ideas were thrown around on how to effectively share the Encounter with students across campus.

The solution to this problem came in a two part plan. One part was to cut down on the physical copies, having only 100 copies of the Encounter on racks around the campus. The other part of the plan to try and get the stories out still to all of the students was to post all of the stories on the USF Encounter website, something that had not been done before.

Along with this, the timeline for the edition was also lackluster. With an initial release date of Friday, Nov. 21, the release date had to be pushed back due to deadlines not being met by writers and editors. On top of that, certain designs were not able to be done in time as well, leading to the decision to push back the release day to Monday, Nov. 24. Despite this, certain deadlines were still not met and the book could not be printed by the 24th, so release had to be pushed back until books were printed on Nov. 25.

Students can pick up one of the limited copies that are around campus starting tonight, or can go online to read all of the stories at https://www.usfencounter.stfrancis.edu/
