Senior Guard Tykara Harrison has reached another milestone in her college basketball career, netting her 1,000th point of her college career. The point came in the Fighting Saints win over Huston-Tillotson University on Nov. 3, where Harrison led the team with 24 points.
Harrison joined the Fighting Saints as a transfer from Southeast Missouri State University prior to her sophomore year. She immediately made an impact, leading the team in scoring and making her way into the starting lineup during the second half of the season. For her efforts, Harrison was voted onto the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference (CCAC)’s All-Second team.
In her second season, Harrison helped lead the team to their first NAIA tournament appearance since 2022 while eclipsing the 500 point mark on the season. One of her best games came in the opening round of the CCAC tournament, a 25 point double-double to help lead her team to victory, and ultimately a tournament finals appearance. Her performance during the season earned her a spot on the CCAC All-Second team for a second season in a row.
Harrison came into this season with the Saints 53 points shy of the 1,000 mark. After starting the season with 12, 7, and 13 points in three saints wins, she entered Monday’s game just 21 points away from 1,000, a number that she has put up many times in her career. After scoring 10 points in the first half, Harrison went off for 12 points in the third quarter. Harrison’s 1,000th point came on a free throw with 3:13 left in the quarter, and she ultimately finished the game as the leading scorer with 24 points.
After the game, Harrison received a shirt commemorating her milestone, along with an instagram post by the official USF athletics instagram.
The Fighting Saints are currently 4-0 to begin their season and have put up at least 80 points in every game. Harrison and the women’s team will be back in action next Wednesday, Nov. 12 against Goshen College, which will take place at the Pat Sullivan Center.
