Form & Fiber is coming to USF

The University of St. Francis Art Gallery has opened its new art exhibit which is displaying the works of ceramics and clay from Kuchinski and Stoiber. The exhibition of art is running from August 21 to October 7.

USF alumna, Peg Stoiber, is displaying her works of intricate woven art in a dialogue of material, body and narrative. Marina Kuchinski is the creative behind the ceramics and mixed media that is displayed alongside Stoiber.

These works of art are intended to challenge social constructs as well as question what the true boundaries are between species.

Both artists draw inspiration from nature and animals but how they interpret and portray those ideas vary. Stoiber’s handwoven textiles encapsulate the beauty of fiber and include knowledge of decades of education in color, pattern and texture. Stoiber showcases her technical mastery while continuing her curiostiy with texture and dimensionality.

Stoiber’s portion of the exhibit comes at an intersection for the USF community as Father Michael, the previous educator on weaving and textiles has gone on to a new assignment through the church. Students are able to experience the complexity of fiber, ceramic and mixed media arts and appreciate the subjective nature the art gallery invokes.

Kuchinski’s sculptures are deeply rooted in post-humanist and feminist ecological thought with the goal of provoking thoughts on reflection, empathy, transformation, and the vulnerability of all beings from her audience.

Both artists in their Form & Fiber gallery are challenging the ideas that their audience holds to be true. This exhibition is open to the public every week from Tuesday to Thursday from 10am-3pm at no cost.  Form & Fiber is on display now at the USF Art Gallery located at 25 E. Van Buren St., Joliet, IL.
