A married couple from Plainfield were found dead in their home from an apparent murder-suicide.

Jennifer Heit, 40, and Ryan Heit, 40, died from apparent gunshot wounds in the early morning of Sept. 29. The Joliet Police Department responded to the incident on the 1800 block of Burshire Court placed by multiple neighbors after they reported hearing gunshots and screaming around early Monday morning.

According to an article by the Joliet Patch, Sargent Dwayne English said officers arrived at the scene a few minutes after multiple 911 calls were received. The officers reportedly found 40-year-old Ryan Heit unresponsive with a self-inflicted gunshot wound in the lawn of the residence. 40-year-old Jennifer was discovered inside of the home with a fatal gunshot wound.

Joliet Police have determined this incident was a domestic dispute. It is believed that Ryan Heit shot his wife with a handgun inside of the home. He then proceeded to shoot himself outside of the home with the same handgun.

Sean Cochran, a neighbor of the couple, told ABC News, "The neighbors heard arguing early in the morning. They also told me they've been arguing for quite some time now, a week or so. Someone heard one shot, a lot of screaming and then another shot and that's that.”

The children of the couple who are ages 3-16 years old were found unharmed and have been taken in by a family member. It is unknown if their children witnessed the dispute.

Sgt. English told the Joliet Patch that they have not responded to any incidents at the Heit’s residence before.

According to ABC News the gun was recovered from the scene.

Police are still investigating the incident.
