This weekend, the Creative Arts Emmy show was hosted, and awards were announced. This show is done prior to the bigger Emmy awards held next week for some of the more widely recognized Emmys and their famous recipients.

At this Emmy award show, former President of the United States Barack Obama won his third Emmy. Obama won this Emmy for the documentary narrator category and received the same award in 2022 and 2023.

Obama was not expected to attend the show, but show host Jordan Klepper, known widely for his work in comedy, joked with the crowd, noting it was unfortunate that Obama could not be there to receive the award.

Kendrick Lamar won an Emmy for his Super Bowl halftime performance that had the world in a chokehold. This performance gained a lot of traction because of his call-out in a song calling the rapper Drake a pedophile. This is Lamar’s second Emmy he has won; his first was in 2022 for his performance at the Super Bowl halftime show, headlined by Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

The Saturday Night Live show, SNL, was the biggest winner at the Creative Arts Emmys, taking home 11 Emmy awards over the weekend. SNL is celebrating 50 years of entertainment this season and ran an “Anniversary Special” that helped them win 7 Emmys, just from that special. SNL did a pop-up event to promote this special they were running which earned them an Emmy for emerging media.

HBO's documentary “Pee-Wee as Himself” won four awards, including one for best documentary. This gave Paul Ruebens, the face of Pee-Wee Herman, posthumously his first Primetime Emmy.

The Creative Arts Emmys are hosted over a span of two days and often give recognition to some of the more niche or hyper-specific categories in the entertainment industry. The Creative Arts Emmys give awards to the Grammys and Oscars award shows, with each of these shows winning an Emmy on Sunday.
