Joliet Drive By Shooting leaves two wounded

At around 12:45pm the stillness of North Broadway Street was broken as gunshots were heard, and local neighbors and residents said that they came in rapid outbursts and woke up the locals.

According to Joliet police, there were two men aged 36 and 44 standing outside their apartment building when a man on a motorcycle drove by and opened fire on the first block of North Way Street. The 36-year-old sustained two gunshots to the leg, and the 44-year-old sustained one to the ankle. Both of the men were treated at the scene and then taken to Ascension St. Joseph Medical Center. Police said their injuries are not life-threatening.

A resident who asked not to be named stated, "It sounded like fireworks, then I heard the screaming and realized it was much worse."

Detectives have gathered bullet casings from the scene, but no arrests have been made yet; the motive of the shooting also remains under investigation.

In a neighborhood where individuals, shift workers, and kids live in close proximity, the gunshot has caused anxiety among the locals. One neighbor added, "We try to keep this a safe place." "However, times like this serve as a reminder of how swiftly that emotion can fade."

The public is being urged to come forward by Joliet police. The department's Investigation Division can be reached at (815) 724-3020 if you have any information or video evidence. Anonymous tips can also be sent online or by calling (800) 323-6734 to reach Will County Crime Stoppers.

Residents on North Broadway find themselves with a lingering dilemma of their own as police continue their investigation: how to bring tranquility back following a night where safety fell away.
