Police order a temporary shelter in Joliet
Local police announced a temporary shelter-in-place directive for homes in the area after a 25-year-old Joliet man was taken into custody Friday afternoon for allegedly shooting a gun into the air after a fight.
After the incident, which happened in the 900-block on Ann Street at approximately 1:30 p.m., Travoccia W. Dillard was arrested and charged with reckless firearm discharge. After receiving reports of shooting, Joliet police made a reverse 911 call advising locals to remain indoors as a precaution.
According to investigators, the incident started when Dillard and a Joliet resident who had been visiting someone nearby got into a social media argument. Dillard left his house, shot once into the air, then went back inside to change, according to the police.
Officers ordered Dillard to leave the house and promptly secured the area. During the time of his arrest, he was carrying his infant child and had left with his girlfriend. Without any more problems, he was arrested and escorted by the Joliet Police Department. Investigators said Dillard denied shooting the handgun when he was in custody.
