The University of St. Francis Fighting Saints volleyball team returns home this Thursday, Sep. 4, in a match against Judson University to open their CCAC conference schedule. The match will take place at 7pm at the Pat Sullivan Center, which is located on campus at the university.

The match comes in the midst of a four game losing streak for the Saints, all of which took place at the Taylor University Classic after going 1-1 in their home tournament, the Big Dogs Classic. The Saints only won two sets over the weekend, largely due to the fact that they were outkilled by at least double digits in all but one match, while also committing more errors in all but one match. Along with this, the saints are also dealing with the injury bug early in the season, as junior Diana Fields and senior Bailey Baird have been sidelined thus far.

Senior Riley Hungate has led the way for the Saints early in the season, leading the team in points and kills, while being second in Digs as well. She is one of two players who has played in every set this season, with the other being Sophomore Ann Simon who leads the team in digs.

While things look grim, there is no reason to hit the panic button just yet. The Saints have not started their CCAC conference schedule yet, which is where the team performs the best historically. They have not had a losing conference record since 2018, meaning that there is room for improvement for the team going forward.

Students are encouraged to attend the home volleyball game this Thursday, along with their next home game on Wednesday, Sep. 10 against St. Ambrose University.
