The University of St. Francis womens’ basketball team looks to follow what was a historic season last year. The Fighting Saints finished the regular season with a 25-8 record including going 15-5 on conference play, good for third in the CCAC. An underdog in the preseason rankings, coach John McGinty led the team to a championship game appearance in the CCAC tournament after a game winning shot by Le’Lani Harris in the semifinals against Olivet Nazarene. While the team took second in the tournament, they were selected as an at-large team for the NAIA tournament, where they went on to win a game against Rocky Mountain College.

Over the past two weeks, the schedule for the team was announced on their instagram page. Their non-conference schedule was released on Sep. 2, followed by their conference schedule on Sep. 10.

They will begin their season at home on Oct. 24 against the University of Michigan-Deaborn, a team which they beat by 37 points just last season. They will make their longest road trip on Nov. 1 when they travel almost seven hours to Grayson, Kentucky. There they will play Kentucky Christian University, a team which they have never played before. Their non-conference schedule is headlined with two exhibitions against NCAA schools, DII University of Illinois-Springfield and DI Western Illinois University on Nov. 25 and Dec 1. respectively.

Their conference schedule begins on Nov. 15, where they look to avenge their CCAC finals loss when they travel to Governors State University. They will play a total of 20 conference games over the course of three months, with their final one being home against storied rival Saint Xavier University. Barring a bottom four finish in the conference, the team will play their opening round CCAC tournament game on Feb. 24.

All home games played by the team will be on campus at the Pat Sullivan center. Students are encouraged to attend games and show their support in what looks to be another great season for the Saints.
