The Diocese of Joliet announced on Sept. 3, 2025 that they will be partnering up with the University of St. Francis (USF) to order admissions scholarships. The University of St. Francis is a Franciscan university located in Joliet, Ill. The Diocese will be implementing this scholarship in order to advance students' education while keeping them engaged with the Catholic church.
The university collaborated with the Diocese, creating something called a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU states that graduates of the Diocese-affiliated high schools will be guaranteed admission to the USF. This opportunity will be available to students who have graduated from the following high schools: Benet Academy, Bishop McNamara Catholic School, IC Catholic Catholic Prep, Joliet Catholic Academy, Montini Catholic, Providence Catholic and St. Francis. Students who qualify for this will also be able to earn the Joliet Franciscan Scholars award of up to $3,000.
In addition to the Joliet Franciscan scholars awards, students will also be eligible for other merit-based scholarships. These scholarships are worth up to $21,000 and are awarded based on test scores, Grade Point Average (GPA) and other academic achievements.
This new partnership eases the admission process for students at the Diocese-affiliated schools. The university is also planning on adding more support for prospective students coming from these high schools. They plan on hosting workshops and information sessions for counselors, teachers, parents and students. They also plan to have special visitation days and admissions and enrollment support. All of these offerings will make it more attainable for students who may be unsure about their college experience.
The only other school that has is part of the MOU in a similar way is Benedictine University (BenU) in Lisle Ill. This partnership offers a dual enrollment option. It is only available to students from high schools that are Diocese-affiliated. This enables students to potentially take online courses in order to earn college credits. This program also offers support to high school teachers ands counselor that is similar to USF's program.
The agreement with BenU can be very impactful for students. However the ease of the post high school transition for students may have them more inclined to entertain the thought of USF before other universities in the area. The MOU will definitely have a positive impact on many students that are a part of Diocese of Joliet Catholic Schools.
