You're Invited! Virtual Community Meeting #2 November 13th
The City of Joliet is asking people who live there to a virtual community meeting about the I-80 Des Plaines River Bridge Community Plan. The event will take place on Thursday, November 13, from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. Participants will be able to give their thoughts on ideas for making the community better.
City officials said in a statement on November 5 that the meeting will demonstrate the draft community vision, talk about local needs, and show fresh ideas for trails and leisure areas. The ideas were made based on feedback from people in the community over the previous few months. Organizers made it clear that this meeting is a chance for citizens to have a say in how $3.5 million in Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) mitigation funding would be used to help the Joliet neighborhood.
The message said, "This is your chance to help shape the future of our neighborhood." "The more people we hear from, the better our community plan will be."
The city started the outreach effort by putting up flyers on people's doors and posting about it on social media. People are asked to sign up for the meeting online at tiny.cc/i80communitymeeting and to tell their friends, family, and neighbors about it to get more people to come.
Along with the meeting, the persons in charge are looking for community members who want to take part in oral history interviews to talk about the people, places, and events that have influenced the region around the I-80 Bridge. People who want to get in touch with the planning team can do so by email at i80communityplan@joliet.gov or by phone at (312) 588-6983.
The city wants to make sure that future renovations reflect the history, culture, and common vision of the people who live there for a stronger, more connected Joliet.
